Have you read these books?
Well, kids (and adults), I finally got a chance to read the fourth book in Margaret Peterson Haddix's exciting Shadow Children series and now I can't wait for book five!
For those of you who aren't familiar with the series, it all begins with Among the Hidden. This book shows us a scary future, one where many people are poor and it is illegal to have more than two children.
Luke, the "star" of the series, is a third child.
As a third child, he is not even supposed to exist, but his family keeps him safely hidden away, always afraid of what might happen if the government discovers him. Luke is lonely and afraid, always inside, often alone in a silent house, until he discovers that one of the other families nearby also has a third child!
The books follow Luke and other Shadow Children through their struggles to find others like them, to have freedom, and most of all, to stay alive.
In the newest book, Luke has been given the identity of a dead Baron child (the Barons are the most important members of this future society), which should make him safer than he was before. Instead, he finds himself in more danger when his new "brother" comes to his school and starts to stir up trouble.
These books are exciting, fast-paced, and will appeal to anyone who loves a good story. I look forward to more of these books and hope that Luke and his friends eventually find the freedom they crave!
The Shadow Children books by Margaret Peterson Haddix are:
1. Among the Hidden
2. Among the Imposters
3. Among the Betrayed
4. Among the Barons
