It's about time! There is a new book award, one that will be voted on by the teens of Illinois! The Abraham Lincoln Award will be given to a book for K-3rd graders each year. Like the the Monarch Award (children in grades K through 3) and the Rebecca Caudill Award (which is for grades 4 through 8), the Abraham Lincoln Award will be chosen by a vote of readers, this time in grades 9 through 12.

Last night I read God Went to Beauty School, the new juvie book by Newbery Award winning author Cynthia Rylant. In it, Ms. Rylant imagines that God is so curious about the amazing world He has created that He comes to experience parts of it. The book is written in a series of short poems, which makes it easy and fun to read. (Also quick. Its only 55 pages and I finished it in about half an hour.

Raising a Reader : a Mother's Tale of Desperation and Delight by Jennie Nash is a marvelous book for parents who want their children to love books!
